What started is a peaceful game drive, ended as one of our most exciting drives ever!

After several trips to Africa as a ‘classic tourist’, I knew it was not enough for me anymore. We were looking for something more special, something that would allow me to do what I couldn’t do anywhere else. Being able to participate in conservation projects, start a project with the help of other shareholders joined by a single wonderful goal; to have the exclusivity of being able to live more directly and personally in the true nature and Africa.

This particular day, we started by waking up an hour later than usually. What a luxury: it was not later than 6am, but it felt like sleeping until 11am. It promised to be another very hot day. Because of this, we started our game drive by going to one of the waterholes.

After a tumultuous night with a lot of lightning, loud thunder, and rain, we woke up at 5 to discover that we had no power. We looked outside and noticed that it was still cloudy; still we decided to go on a game drive. Most of the times you don’t see many animals when it’s cloudy, but you never know.

We looked at a number of reserves, mainly in South Africa but decided on Botswana because of safety, security, freehold land without potential land claims, a robust economy, a very low population density and high animal density, better tax conditions, and a number of other factors. We also wanted a reserve that was not time share based or focused on fractional interest users.

Since a couple of days our ‘mission’ has been to find the lions. About 3 weeks ago an adult lion, we don’t know if it’s a male or female, and two young males entered the wilderness reserve – very exciting!

We decided it was time to visit the reserve again, after not having visited it for a while. We arrived two days ago and already we feel charged with energy!

After having had a nice time with other co-owners of the reserve at the central facility we decided to have lunch together, the next day, at one of the beautiful springs.

Annemiek saw an advertisement of the reserve, decided to visit the it and fell in love immediately; she’s now co-owner and visits Botswana whenever she can.

After you’ve finally found it, you shine through the sliding doors of your lodge; it’s a bushbuck having its morning drink at the river…
